Combined services at Cornerstone City for December – January
Campus Church: no service Sunday 14th December – Sunday 11th January.
Fields Church: no service Sunday 28th December – Sunday 4th January.

Start off the year by spending time in God’s Word with your church family. Scott Mackay will preach through the book of Job, considering suffering and asking not why God allows suffering, but how we can trust God and know He is good, even when experience suggests otherwise and the ‘why’ feels unanswered. Our weekend away makes space for us to connect deeply, encourage one another, and delight again in God’s goodness as we sit under His Word together.

Location

Woodend Christian Camp is a 30-minute drive from Christchurch and a 10-minute walk to the beach.

FAQs

Do I have to pay upon registering to secure the early bird price?

No. All you need to do is register for camp by the 31st of December.

How do I pay for the weekend away?

You can pay using the online credit card option or via internet banking. If you are paying for a family, then please be aware that you will need to pay using internet banking to avoid paying more than the family max price.

Am I able to pay in installments?

Yes, this is a great option to help make camp fees manageable. If you choose to do this, make sure you use internet banking and please note this in the particulars by writing ‘instalment’.

When does the weekend away begin and end?

You are welcome to arrive from 4.30 pm on Friday evening. We officially start at 6 pm with dinner, and finish by 1.30 pm on Sunday afternoon.

What do I need to bring?

  • Sheets - single unless you have been notified to bring a double

  • Pillow

  • Sleeping bag or sheets and duvet (assume a single sized bed unless you have been told otherwise)

  • Towel

  • Toiletries

  • Insect repellent

  • Swimming togs - for waterslide

  • Sunhat

  • Drink bottle

  • Board games, musical instruments, outdoor games

  • A rain jacket or umbrella

  • Pen and bible (including youth and kids)

  • If you are camping, then bring your own tent and sleeping equipment

  • If you are using a baby monitor, bring a power extension cord as there are some rooms without power points inside

  • Fan (if it is forecast for hot weather)

Where will I be sleeping?

If you select a tent ticket on your registration form, then you will need to bring your own tent or caravan. When you arrive, ask at the welcome desk where the designated area for tents and caravans is. If you select a bunk room ticket and you are an individual, then you will likely be sharing with others. Families and couples will have their own room. If you have specific accommodation needs, please add a comment to your registration form and we will do our best to accommodate these.

I don’t have a car. How will I get to Woodend?

You can indicate whether you need a ride on your registration form. Someone will be in touch the week of camp to organise this with you.

What dietary requirements are catered for?

We will cater for dairy free, gluten free and vegetarian. If you have other dietary requirements then please do still note these on your registration form and we will do our best to cater for them. If we are unable to cater for your dietary requirements, then we will be in touch.

I have already registered for the weekend away, but am now unable to attend. What should I do?

We understand that unexpected things arise. Get in touch with Victoria Goodman (victoriagoodman@outlook.co.nz) and your registration will be updated. We will arrange refunds where possible. Please be aware that we are unable to offer refunds after 31st of January.

Is the weekend away family-friendly?

Yes. The venue has many activities for children and adults to enjoy. We also provide programmes for children while the adults are in the main sessions. The programmes are for children from age 1 up to high-school-aged children. It will be divided into crèche, primary-aged children and a youth programme. In the main hall we will have a small area set up for parents with babies.

We aim to have families with younger children accommodated in the rooms closer to the main hall so that baby monitors will work in the hall. If you are feeling unsure about accommodation arrangements, have a chat with a family who has attended camp before.

Will I have any free time?

On Saturday afternoon there will be some scheduled free time. There are also small pockets of time throughout the weekend where nothing is formally planned. We also have a mixture of formal sessions and informal activities throughout the weekend.

Will there be wifi?

There is wifi at Woodend Christian Camp. There will be a password at the welcome desk. Please note that there is limited cellphone reception.

I’m feeling anxious about attending. What will be expected of me?

If you are feeling this way, please take part as little or as much as you feel comfortable. During camp there will be a range of different sessions, as well as free time. Some sessions are more formal with a bible talk, singing and praying. Other times it will be informal and a chance to relax and get to know one another. Over the weekend, there are various duties that need to be completed to ensure a smooth running of our camp. Everyone will be assigned to a group to complete these tasks.
