What is a 'Ministry Pastor'?

What does a 'Ministry Pastor' do?

Kadin joined the staff team at Cornerstone in January 2025. He is the campus pastor at Fields Church, helps new people integrate into church life, and also oversees the area of 'ministry' across our three campuses.

What does your role as 'Ministry Pastor' entail?

Helping us as Christ's body to use the gifts he's given us to build up the church. We want to be a church that is ministry-minded; to be serving one another as our Saviour has served us: "Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her" (Ephesians 5:25).

Two key areas of a healthy ministry-minded church are its ministry teams and ministry training.

My goal is to help our ministry teams be healthy teams that serve others out of love for Christ. We want everyone at church to be serving as they have capacity, so that we express the love we have for Christ and his people.

I also oversee our ministry training programmes, which equip people to serve God and his people. Summer Connect, Co-workers, summer internships, and apprenticeships all fall under ministry training. A special plug for Co-workers—I love digging into the Bible with trainees and helping us wrestle with how it lands for us practically in the way we serve!

What have you been working on over the past six months?

I’ve been trying to get clarity on where our teams are at; we're not just aiming for full rosters, but growing disciples. We want members on teams whose service flows from the impact of the gospel in their lives, and to equip leaders to lead teams in service of their Saviour, so we can serve more people more effectively. I'm asking questions like: "Is this team expressing our core values?"; "Are team members plugged into church, or just fulfilling a duty?"; "How could each member of this team grow?"

I'm so thankful to God for the many ways members at Cornerstone serve throughout the week. I also get the joy of seeing new people join us at Cornerstone and get plugged into these teams!

How does a clear overview of our ministry teams help us build a healthy church community?

We want God's children to be serving joyfully and in a way that reflects the centrality of the gospel in our lives. An overview of our ministry teams helps us see the needs in our teams, and the opportunities that are available as people join church, or grow in capacity to serve. It also helps us identify where we need more training, so people can step into leadership and help others to serve.
